Michael McCandlish

Michael McCandlish is an intellectual property attorney focusing his practice on the prosecution of U.S. and foreign patents in the electrical and mechanical arts, working primarily on automotive, telecommunication and industrial applications.

During law school, Mike was active on Moot Court and was the recipient of many awards, including the Order of the Coif, Alpert Foundation Scholarship for Outstanding Scholarly Achievement, Deloitte LLP Tax Award and Adamany Constitutional Law Award.

Prior to starting the practice of law, Mike enjoyed a rewarding career in the semiconductor industry. During this career, he developed and introduced to the market place over 40 mixed-signal integrated circuits in the automotive and consumer applications, including the first commercially-developed digital locomotive for model trains (his favorite). Mike’s experiences include living in Germany for seven years and also founding and managing the North American subsidiary of Elmos Semiconductor AG.

Mike is a graduate of Wayne State University Law School (J.D., cum laude, 2010), Wharton School of Business (Executive Development Program, 2000), and Carnegie-Mellon University College of Engineering (B.S., Electrical Engineering, with honors, 1978).

Mike serves on planning committees for Automation Alley and the local chapter of the Carnegie-Mellon University Alumni Group. He is an active member of First Baptist Church of Birmingham, where he is chair of the stewardship committee and a member of the choir. Mike also provides pro-bono legal services in Family Law.
