Charles Bieneman and Daniel Hegner to Present on Recent Developments in U.S. Patent Law in Toronto, Canada

Southfield, MI (February 5, 2019) – Bejin Bieneman partners, Charles Bieneman and Daniel Hegner, will present on recent developments in U.S. patent law to the Toronto Intellectual Property Group on February 27 from 5:30 – 8:30pm at Rosewater Room in Toronto, Canada.

Mr. Bieneman and Mr. Hegner will discuss recent developments that affect how practitioners prepare and prosecute applications for inventions with functional elements. They will focus on the test governing subject matter eligibility under 35 U.S.C. 101, as well as how to support functional claim limitations to meet the written description and enablement requirements of 35 U.S.C. 112. Cases in the last year have refined, if not outright changed, the requirements for showing subject matter eligibility, and the USPTO recently promulgated new examination guidelines for both 101 and 112.
